FLIR cameras can help you with energy savings in the home

Saving energy? We can help you with professional, pocket-sized, easy-to-use thermal imaging technology.

We know many of you will be feeling the chill as freezing temperatures continue to hit Europe this winter. And in the face of ever-rising energy prices, you may be cranking up the heat more to keep your home warm. But how much of that heat is escaping the house unseen?

Smart home climate management company tado ° examined 80,000 homes in 11 European countries between December 2019 and January 2020 and found that...

... a house in the UK with an indoor temperature of 20°C and an outdoor temperature of 0°C loses 3°C on average after five hours.

In Spain, we have an aging housing stock, where one out of every two houses is more than 40 years old. And 40 years ago, there were no regulations governing the thermal conditions of buildings. According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), 13 million homes are more than 40 years old, which represents about 50% of the current housing stock, with the latest data we have (2019).

Due to the price increases caused by the energy crisis, the prices for heating homes have increased. Therefore, it is of vital importance to improve the energy efficiency of homes.

Now is the time to be proactive

While we can't control the crisis, Teledyne FLIR cameras can help you take control of your own energy consumption, now and in the future. FLIR designs and manufactures thermal imaging cameras specifically for homeowners to help them see what you can't see: identifying heat that is potentially leaking through drafty and poorly insulated areas of the home.

"FOR HOMEOWNERS, A THERMAL CAMERA IS AN EXCELLENT TOOL FOR FINDING ENERGY THIEVES."

Energy leakage

Mats Henriksson, senior director of product management at Teledyne FLIR, firmly believes that while we may all be feeling the financial pressure, we have the power to make changes that will help save energy and money, as well as help people and the planet. "Anything you can do as a homeowner to reduce energy loss is not only a short-term benefit to you, but is also an important part of the difficult fight against climate change," says Mats.

The first important step in this is to reduce the amount of energy your home is wasting due to poor insulation, drafts and other problems. "For homeowners, a thermal camera is an excellent tool for finding energy thieves: it can be poor or missing insulation, construction errors, unwanted drafts, moisture or water damage. In many cases, this gives you the opportunity to better understand what action to take before the problem grows, avoiding more costly home renovations," Mats explains.

Due to the price increases caused by the energy crisis, the prices for heating homes have increased. Therefore, it is of vital importance to improve the energy efficiency of homes.
