Early fire detection is a key application of FLIR thermal imaging cameras: by means of thermal imaging it is possible to detect the signs of a possible fire at a very early stage, i.e. to detect hot spots that have a rising tendency and can generate a so-called spontaneous combustion. The article illustrates the solution of a FLIR thermal imaging camera mounted on a Pan & Tilt system for monitoring a municipal solid waste silo/bunker.
