IRTIMfire - Early fire detection system for waste plants

Waste treatment plants are places where various types of waste are collected and processed. However, due to the wide variety of materials handled at these sites, there is a high and increasing risk of fire.

Causes of fires in waste plants

One of the main risk factors in waste treatment plants is the possibility that the stored waste (much of it flammable) may increase in temperature and cause a fire. This temperature increase usually occurs due to the fermentation of the waste when it is accumulated and compacted. A serious problem that has been affecting waste and recycling plants more and more recently is lithium-ion or similar batteries mixed in the waste, which in poor condition are prone to self-ignition.

Fire prevention

To prevent fires in waste plants, we have developed an early fire detection system called IRTIMfire, which uses infrared technology to monitor the area and the waste 24 hours a day, accurately detecting the increase in temperature of the stored waste. It is easy to install and complements other safety systems already in place in the plant. In this way, IRTIMfire alerts the safety systems to take action to prevent a fire even before smoke appears. This provides a greater margin of action than other fire detection systems, which detect the fire after the fire has already started. IRTIMfire is designed to detect and rule out false alarms, thus avoiding unnecessary activation of fire protocols and systems.

Waste plants that have only traditional fire suppression or detection systems, such as sprinklers or alarms, assume a very high risk by having to act after the fire has already started and the damage has already been caused.

In addition to having a thermographic early fire detection system that continuously monitors temperature levels, it is essential to have fire alarm and extinguishing systems, as well as personnel trained to handle emergency situations. It is also important to implement adequate safety measures at waste treatment plants. This includes separation of flammable and non-flammable waste and adequate ventilation to prevent the accumulation of gases.

In summary, waste plants are places where a wide variety of waste is handled, which implies a high risk of fires. It is essential to have theIRTIMfire thermographic early fire detection system to prevent and avoid fires in waste plants.

IRTIMfire increases safety in recycling or waste treatment plants, protecting workers, equipment, infrastructure and the environment.
