Fire departments around the world use FLIR thermal cameras to navigate through smoke and darkness to locate people in such an environment. These thermal imaging cameras are very rugged and withstand the extreme conditions they are subjected to, but they often do not have the level of detail of other thermal imaging cameras such as those used in industry. This is starting to change thanks to the new FSX enhanced thermal imaging system, Flexible Scene Enhancement, already incorporated in the FLIR K55 and FLIR K65 thermal cameras.
