Forensic researchers have developed an alternative method to luminol for the detection of blood in tissues: Although thermography does not directly detect blood, by vaporizing water vapor a thermal signature is generated that a thermal imaging camera is able to detect. This technique using thermography is of interest for occasions when the use of luminol may affect genetic markers in the sample or scene.
